Watch Kellyanne Conway Respond Back to the Fake News Haters
Kellyanne Conway, counselor to President Donald Trump, continues to defend herself after she misspoke last week about a terrorist attack that never happened, labeling her detractors “haters.”
In a preview of an interview set to air Sunday evening on Fox News’ “Media Buzz,” Conway admitted she misspoke about the “Bowling Green massacre,” while lamenting over the media’s insistence on covering her gaffe over and over.
“They’re masterminds, I had said that before,” Conway told host Howard Kurtz. “I should have said plot or I should have just called them terrorists. I clarified immediately. I should have said terrorists and not massacre.”
“I’m sure it will live on for a week,” she added.
The Bowling Green Massacre is an event that never happened, which mainstream media news outlets were quick to point out. Instead, Conway meant to cite the Bowling Green terrorists, who were sentenced in 2013 for admitting to aiding Al Qaeda and attempting killing U.S. soldiers in Iraq. The two men, Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, were refugees from Iraq.
Conway originally cited the “massacre” during an interview with MSNBC as a reason why Trump’s recent executive order on immigration and refugees was more than reasonable and needed to be done. Still, Conway was quick to admit her mistake.
“I misspoke one word. The corrections in the newspapers that are attacking me are three paragraphs long every day,” Conway told Kurtz.
Conway also pushed back against comments Chelsea Clinton recently directed at Conway. On Friday, Clinton tweeted to her followers asking them to not “make up” attacks. Conway later hit back on Twitter reminding Clinton of her mother’s famous lie, referencing the time Hillary Clinton said she was shot at by a sniper in Bosnia in 1996. Conway also reminded Chelsea that the Clintons and Democrats lost in last year’s presidential election, while she and Trump won.
But during her interview with Fox, Conway continued to hit back at Clinton.
“She should leave me out of it. She and her network should have called me,” Conway said, referencing Clinton’s stint as a reporter for NBC News.
